It’s a new week and that means a new Oracle Outlook. And this week, we’ve circled back to the Lenormand as the oracle being used for the reading.
Taking the Piatnik Lenormand, the deck assisting me, in hand, I’m shuffling the cards, asking what we might expect for the week ahead.
The video below reveals the cards in the reading:
If you prefer to read the post, here it is:
The cards for the week are: Garden, Cross, Heart, Birds, and Mountain.
The Focus of the Reading
Our focus card this week, which is in the middle of the line, is Heart. If you’re one of the viewers (of the videos) and readers who requested seeing me tackle love and relationship situations with the Lenormand, you’ll be especially interested seeing Heart as the focus, given that some of the keywords associated with it are love, romance, and affection.
Heart, for me, can also represent passion and enthusiasm.
Whether it’s a romance or a passion of another kind, Heart suggests that matters of the heart (I couldn’t resist) may be front and center this week.
Looking at Combinations in the Line
Since Lenormand is best read in pairs and combinations, let’s take a look at the other cards in the line, and see how they inform us more about Heart.
The cards immediately flanking Heart, Cross and Birds, can describe more about the nature of the topic (Heart).
Cross is a card of burden and difficulty. It can also be a card of religion, spirituality, and faith. Cross can suggest something that’s critical and necessary, and that a crisis or ordeal may be a test of faith.
Birds is a card of communication and conversation; I call it the card of the “spoken word,” so anything that has to do with speaking in any way is associated with Birds. In this day and age of social media, Birds would include “tweeting,” as well as internet radio shows and podcasts. This would be a week to keep a lookout for phone calls and voicemails, too.
Both cards, from an emotional standpoint (Heart), can suggest grief and suffering (Cross) and frustration, anxiety, and sorrow (Birds).
Some possibilities with Cross + Birds would be: difficulty communicating; a frustrating ordeal; the burden of a relationship or partnership (which could fit with Heart being about a possible romantic situation); and a crisis of faith is discussed.
The outer cards, Garden and Mountain, can offer information that would sum things up.
Garden is a card of the public and things social. It can represent a group or community, and I call Garden the “other people” card. Garden can also be about the places and spaces groups of people gather, as well as the great outdoors.
Mountain is a card of setbacks and delays, obstacles and challenges. For me, Mountain comes up in a reading to indicate procrastination, that something is being put off for a later point in time.
Some possibilities with Garden + Mountain could be: a challenging group or community; a group faces a setback; a social event is delayed or postponed.
With Lenormand being quite literal, Garden + Mountain can be an open, natural space (Garden) that’s in the mountains (Mountain), and that it could be distant and remote (Mountain).
Here, the pairings suggest that, quite possibly, there’s a setback (Mountain) with a social event (Garden), and might come from difficulty (Cross) with communication (Birds), which is critical and necessary (Cross). The difficulty (Cross) has led to feelings (Heart) of frustration (Birds) and anxiety (Birds), as the burden (Cross) may have fallen to two people in particular (Birds), testing (Cross) their relationship (Birds).
If Heart is about romance, then there might be difficulty (Cross) with communication (Birds) in a relationship (Birds), as one partner (Birds) is open and social (Garden), while the other partner (Birds) is remote and distant (Mountain). The partner who is distant could be suffering (Cross) from nervousness and anxiety (Birds) when it comes to conversation (Birds), which can be frustrating (Birds) for both partners (Birds).
Reading the Line as Possibilities for the Week
In my continuing study and work with the cards, I was given this sudden inspiration in reading the line for these general readings. It keeps with how I read Tarot and Angel cards, in that there are possibilities presented for the beginning, middle, and end of the week.
For the beginning of the week, Garden and Cross are paired up, and can indicate a group or community experiences a difficulty, a burden, or a crisis of some kind.
The group or community may be a religious or spiritual one, or that its collective faith will be tested.
For the middle of the week, Cross, Heart, and Birds become a combo, stating that difficulty (Cross) in a romance (Heart) becomes frustrating (Birds), leading to a conversation (Birds) between the partners (Birds), speculating (Birds) on the future of the partnership (Birds).
And, for the end of the week, Birds and Mountain are paired up, possibly suggesting that a conversation is delayed, or that a partnership experiences a challenging setback. The pair could also be a heads-up that phone calls (Birds) are going to be blocked (Mountain).
It could be from frustration (Birds) with idle chatter (Birds) leading to a need for distance (Mountain), or that reception is challenging (Mountain) in a distant and remote area (Mountain), perhaps even up in the mountains (Mountain).
Narrating the Line
After all these pairings to create meaning, the time comes to form a sentence by narrating the cards from left to right. Taking all the possibilities into consideration, here’s a summation that comes to mind:
Public (Garden) criticism (Cross) of an ordeal (Cross) leads to a passionate (Heart) dialogue (Birds) about the challenges (Mountain) ahead (Mountain as a card of the future).
With Lenormand, there are many possibilities, so I’m going to let this reading come to a close here. In the next post, I’ll take a peek at the playing cards in the reading, as well as the numbers on the cards, for any additional insights.
Until then…
