Oracle Outlook: Tarot Reading for October 9 – 15, 2017

Just as I had settled on using a playing card deck for this week’s Oracle Outlook, an interesting thing happened. A regular client, who came for her weekly coaching session, brought me a gift: a new Tarot deck.

The deck is part of a set titled “The Art of Tarot,” by Liz Dean and Emma Garner (published by Barnes & Noble Books).

Here’s the interesting part: The deck is a pip deck, which means that the cards of the Minor Arcana are non-scenic, and in that sense, they can resemble a deck of playing cards in appearance.

It’s like the Universe gave me a wink and a nod, suggesting I use this deck for the reading. So I will.

As I do every week for these general readings, I’m taking the deck in hand, shuffling the cards, and asking this question: “What do we need to know about the possibilities for the week ahead?”

This week’s video reveals the cards for our reading:

If you prefer to read the post, here it is:

After shuffling the deck, I pulled three cards for this reading.

Cards for the Week

Starting off this week’s reading, we have the Ace of Wands, a card that appeared in last week’s reading, making a return.

As I shared last week, when the Ace of Wands turns up, it can suggest that a new cycle, phase, or situation is beginning. Aces suggest the promise and potential for the future, so consider this period of time the starting point for new thought-seeds to be planted now that will develop and manifest at a later time.

The Ace of Wands encourages you to look for anything that comes your way as a potential source of inspiration, motivation, and passion; something that sparks your interest.

This incoming source could be the thing that gets you started on a new business or creative endeavor, as the Ace of Wands helps to reveal the creative path or the career path you’re on. You may be considering a new job or up for a promotion on your existing job.

When the Ace of Wands appears, consider it a supercharged energy boost. As with all the Aces in Tarot, it’s a gift to do with as you like. If you choose to accept it, be clear on your intent (Wands being the suit of intention and action)–for your actions follow your intentions.

Moving on the next card, we have the Page of Swords.

Pages in Tarot, for me, can represent a learning stage of development. This particular Page embraces a new idea or concept. With the Page of Swords turning up this week, this could be a time when new information may be gained. Swords, being a suit of communication, can suggest this information could be written, spoken, or both.

The Page of Swords is considered the inquisitive or curious type, and likes asking the question, “Why?” Seeing this card come up could suggest that you get to the “why” of a certain experience or situation.

Sometimes, when this Page appears, it can suggest that the information received might be difficult to hear. It reminds me of the moment in the film “A Few Good Men,” when Jack Nicholson’s character, being pressed for the truth of a situation in a courtroom by Tom Cruise’s character, exclaims, “You can’t handle the truth!”

So, be sure, that if you’re seeking the truth of a situation or experience, you’re really ready to handle any and all answers you might receive.

And that brings us to our final card for the week, the 8 of Cups.

The 8 of Cups can suggest going on a spiritual quest, a search for meaning in one’s life. This can mean literal travel, but most often, spiritual quests are taken by going within. Either way, this means that you’ll be “going it alone,” that it’s a trek for you and you alone. You may be moving into unfamiliar territory, into spaces and places you have never gone before.

This journey will require you to leave the past behind–and with that, some people, places, circumstances, and conditions that no longer serve and support you–in fact, those very things may now be draining you (the 8 of Cups warns of “toxic” people, environments, and circumstances that may be having an effect on your spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical well-being).

The 8 of Cups is known as an emotional choice card, sometimes called “a change of heart” card. We sometimes have to get to a point where we think, feel, and say that we’ve had enough and that it’s time to move on—even if we don’t know where we’re going or what lies ahead, because what’s familiar is no longer working for us.

When we can do this for ourselves, we’re taking the steps to reclaim our personal power (the number 8 is a number of power). When we stand in the power of who we are, we’re standing in, what spiritual teacher Gary Zukav calls, our “authentic power.”

In some circles, this card is also known as “the Amethyst Rose.” When the 8 of Cups crosses your path in this regard, you’re going through a time of “spiritual purification.” To aid in this process, you’re encouraged to either wear or carry on your person a piece of amethyst. Doing this will cleanse your energy, and allow a spiritual awakening or enhancement to possibly occur.

This is a time of release that will help to improve your overall well-being.

And that brings our journey through the cards this week to a close.

I’m wishing you a Tarot-tastic week!

Hello James, I stumbled upon your latest tarot reading just now. I am the artist who illustrated the deck of cards you used here – Emma Garner. It’s a lovely coincidence to find this because I haven’t designed any tarot decks for several years, but for some reason this one, The Art of Tarot was on my mind earlier today. How strange! Thank you for sharing this deck with your followers 🙂

The synchronicities I’m experiencing around this deck just continue to happen–and this is the best one, for sure! 😀
    Many blessings,
    James
